What is the difference between HTML and ASP?

What do people mean when they talk about a "dial-up"?
While the term "dial-up" can refer to any connection which requires you to dial into the Internet or email using a phone line as opposed to being permanently connected, this term is most commonly used to refer to a 56K Analogue dial-up connection.

What is the difference between Analogue dial-ups and ISDN?
ISDN is a digital dial-up connection which operates at speeds of 64K or 128K, while analogue dial-ups operate at a 56K.

What do I need to get connected?
You will need the relevant modem (many PCs come with a 56K modem, but an ISDN modem will most likely have to be bought separately), a phone line and a PC.

Can more than one person use one dial-up?
Yes, but care must be taken to ensure that only one person tries to log-in at a time simultaneous log-ins create errors and will be charged as 2 separate dial-ups.

Can a dial-up be connected to a network?
Yes.

Hosting

What is domain hosting?
Domain hosting refers to the hosting of your unique web address that determines either your website address (URL) and/or your companies email addresses. ie. www.yourdomain.com, or you@yourdomain.com.

Does SybaWeb charge for domain parking?
No, domain parking is free but the domain must have been registered with SybaWeb Internet.

Does SybaWeb charge for domain transfer?
No, domain transfers are free.

How do I register a domain name?
You can check for domain name availability by using the "Domain Availability" facility on the top right-hand side of this page. Once you have established that the name is available, simply fill in the domain registration form (available on the "Sign Up" page of this website), get it back to us with the relevant info and we?ll do the rest.

What is a domain name?
A domain name is a name assigned to the physical location of information on a server. It is kind of like an Internet address which shows the location of the information which you are requesting. For example, www.sybaweb.co.za is the address of the site files of the SybaWeb website, this tells your computer where to go to find our website. (?)

How long can a domain name be?
At least 3 characters but not more than 63 (not including the www. Or .co.za/.com) But do bare in mind that people tend to find the shorter names easier to remember and to spell.

What else can I use my domain name for?
A domain name can be used for your web address (www.yourdomainname.co.za) or your email address (you@yourdomainname.co.za)

.co.za or .com?
Either can be used, we recommend looking at your target market and selecting the best option with regards to this. .co.za is aimed mostly at a locally based South African market, while .com is mostly aimed at an international market. Both are available to everyone on the internet.

Email

What is the difference between an alias/ forwarder and a mailbox?
A mailbox is an email account set up using a username and domain of your choice, while an alias/forwarder is a link to an already created mailbox.

What is a global mailbox (sometimes referred to as mail spooling)?
This is a "wildcard" type of mailbox which is designed to catch any mail sent to a domain. For ie. *@yourdomain.co.za can be set-up to "catch" all emails that are sent to the sybaweb domain.
